Care concepts for geriatric patients
Special clinical-rehabilitative approaches
The geriatric clinic of St. Mauritius Therapieklinik offers special clinical-rehabilitative care concepts for geriatric patients. These concepts aim to reduce the functional deficits that result from complex organ disorders as far as possible and to help the patient to partake in every-day social life as much as possible and live as independently as possible.
In Germany, the Sozialgesetzbuch (SGB IX – social security statutes) provides the legal framework for rehabilitation care. Precondition for the admission to our hospital is the patient‘s health insurer‘s approval of his or her application for rehabilitation care.
Improvement of the quality of life
Our multidisciplinary rehabilitation team aims e.g. to improve the patient’s mobility, to help the patient stand or sit in upright position, to enable bed-wheelchair-bed transfer or to improve ambulation skills.
The major goal of rehabilitation is to achieve maximum independence of the patient. Prior to discharge we help to prepare further out-patient therapy. This includes provision of necessary aids and equipment and development of a long-term therapy plan that takes into account any chronic conditions of the patient such as diabetes or early stages of dementia.
