Frequently treated pathologies

in children and adolescents

In general, children and adolescents can suffer from the same neurological diseases as adults and thus require rehabilitation therapies. Some of the most frequent indications for rehabilitation are:

  • Intracranial injury
  • Hypoxia
  • Brain tumours
  • Cerebrovascular insult
  • Cerebral haemorrhage caused e.g. by an intracranial vascular malformation
  • Spinal cord lesions (trauma, tumour)
  • Neurological complications in connection with cancer (central nervous system after radiation therapy, peripheral neuropathy after chemotherapy)
  • Inflammatory diseases of the central and the peripheral nervous system
  • Patient suffered from status epilepticus
  • Patient underwent epilepsy surgery

Congenital diseases of the nervous system or early acquired diseases of the nervous systems that result from pre- or perinatal complications may also call for rehabilitation therapy:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Congenital malformations of the nervous system, e.g. spina bifida, hydrocephalus
  • Neuromuscular diseases
  • Neurometabolic diseases
