Therapy options for neurologically impaired children and adolescents
- Cerebral palsy
- Intracranial injury
- Brain tumours
- Sequela of inadequate oxygen supply of the brain (hypoxia)
In general, children and adolescents can be admitted in all phases of rehabilitation, starting from the initial phase following intensive care up to the reintegration phase (return to school).
Surrounded by verdant fields, the hospital is nevertheless located right in the middle of Germany’s largest metropolitan area. It is served by public transport and easily accessible from anywhere in the Rhine/Ruhr area.
This easy accessibility allows us to integrate the young patients’ parents and social environment into the therapy. The wards, the therapy areas, the nursery, the swimming pool and the school – every element of the facility is designed to create a pleasant and friendly atmosphere which supports and strengthens the patients’ motivation to “stick” to their therapy plan
Accommodation for family members, including a separate kitchen and lounge areas, are available on-site.
Our teams that accompany the patients bring together different specialists – paediatricians, neuro-paediatricians, orthopaedists – as well as neuropsychologists, nursing staff (paediatric nurses, etc.) and therapists covering a broad range of fields (physiotherapy, sports therapy, ergotherapy, special education, psychology, art and music therapy, speech therapy, swallowing therapy) as well as regular and special education teachers of our hospital school.
Our neurological therapies for children are designed to provide a means for the child to fully realize his or her development potential. Our approach aims to explore and maintain the range of post-injury possibilities with the help of scientifically validated therapies.
The clinic offers all modern diagnostic procedures:
- Electroencephalography (EEG)
- Evoked potentials
- Electromyography (EMG)
- Gait analysis
- Doppler ultrasound
- Speech diagnostics
- In-house MRI service
We prefer therapies that are based on scientifically validated procedures and which offer fast improvements of the targeted functions, e.g.
- Treadmill training
- Rhythmic-acoustic stimulation
- Repetitive drills
- Funktional electrostimulation
- Concentration and memory training
- Botulinum toxin
In addition, we offer conventional physical therapy and special education approaches. A dedicated team is available for diagnosis and therapy of eating disorders that combines video-endoscopic swallowing diagnostics with modern eating and swallowing therapies.
Our therapeutic approach is based on three basic principles:
- Pragmatic therapies that focus on the improvement of functions which offer real progress in every-day life.
- Integration of therapy and care.
- Focus on evidence-based therapies
All therapies are applied in a playful and fun atmosphere.
Care is organized in small therapy teams, which ensures that the children work as much as possible with the same staff throughout their stay.
The teams develop individual therapy plans which aim to realize as quickly as possible tangible successes for patient and family.
We cooperate with all payers (private and statutory health insurers, employers’ liability insurance organisations, pension insurance companies).
